06 Aug 2011 - day 3

I woke up this morning somewhat dragging.Now that I'm at work my right inguinal lymph nodes are *throbbing* and sending diffuse pain down my leg. I'm not liking this at all.

Today is my first day taking phentermine. I read up on the stuff on PubMed and I dunno.

Frankly, I don't think I need to take an anorectic unless I have zero fat in my diet (which, based on all the fat-free cheese and soup and food they are pushing, Swedish seems to be anti-fat). I'm not really all that hungry as long as I have a bolus of fat in the morning and a slow stream of fat over the day. I rarely eat sweets or bread. I *hate* potatoes and pasta. My weaknesses are beer and rice. Now if they could hook me up with some drug that makes me puke at the sight of beer or rice, then we'd be in business.

What totally cracks me up is one of the brand names for this puppy is "Kraftobese". With all the trouble I had trying to get into pharmaceutical marketing... to see the stupid names (and direct-to-consumer ads) some of their marketing minions come up with I am amazed they still have jobs, and I didn't get one in their big pharma suit lair.

wow. halfway through the day the legal speed is kicking in. I have cotton-mouth, palpitations, and presyncope.

I can't believe they don't have any pre-fab charts in there so I don't have to do all of that <td> </td> garbage after every freakin' line of text. And when I copy-pasted from Excel, it purged all my formatting this time. And when I tried to use the table from yesterday, it wouldn't let me enter text. Fine. I'll edit the HTML - or not. Frankly, if Blogger is so crappy with tables, I'm just going to burden their server by uploading a picture of my table for every fracking day.

04 Aug 2011 - I'm not sure about this

It's only the first day and I'm not so sure about this hi protein lo fat dealio. The fat was what was keeping me satiated and without that, I'm still hungry after I eat and that is a little annoying. But it's worth a try and any amount of suffering and inconvenience I really should accept if it leads to my looking a little better. Frankly, I don't give a crap about if it makes me healthier or stronger or if it makes me live longer. It's all about looking good because that is all that matters in our society and for me to matter, I need to look good.

03 Aug 2011 - ok let's try this again

Over the past couple weeks the combination of being really demoralized from gaining half the weight back I lost over 50 days back again in only 10 and that I have 5 separate groups of friends all of which are suddenly wanting to socialize with me over food and much drink now that I am going to be leaving for New York -- I have not been one for continuing with documenting my food intake. Why bother? I'm a fat fuck who is going to stay a fat fuck for life evidently. My body's against me, my social circles are against me, my crazy crazy hectic life is against me.

But now I have some renewed inspiration. I scheduled an appointment for the third at Swedish Weightloss Center with Dr. Lindquist. He came recommended by Dr. Eades, which is a five-star seal of approval in my books. I went to the appointment feeling drunk on hypoglycemia because I literally had *no time* to eat once I had forgotten to eat breakfast and I have no snacks in the house because I haven't had time for grocery shopping -- started my homework at 4:30AM, worked on it until 8:30, drove to class, worked on my homework in class, turned in my homework after class, drove like a bat out of hell up to Swedish and there ya go. By the time I had a second to eat, it was 3:00PM -- and it was a low carb kibble sample in the office. - oh - and a lemony calcium citrate chewy snak - waaaaaaay to sweeet :-&

Anyhoo, the skinny of what I learned from the visit is:

(a) I am fat fat super fat uber fat teh water rat - but like I didn't know that;
(b) I've lost an inch in height over the past 2 years (??);
(c) My target calories are too high;
(d) I need to eat a lot less more often; and
(e) I'm not eating enough protein

So I'm changing the diet parameters listed in the header. I know this is the 'going away' time for me and I'm going to have to fend off saboteurs, one of them being my own penchant for IPAs and sushi - but I will allow two formally sanctioned days for cheating between now and when I leave on the 25th.

It was bad when I weighed myself after New York but I got the courage to weigh myself again.
I'm 7.2 pounds down - so my 10 days or so of regular carb =almost 4 pounds gained. Unbelievable. I'm looking into whether the HCG diet can be added into what I am doing - it sounds like that is a much lower calorie diet but if it works, it works. I would just be bummed about not having booze for 42 days.

Stepping Back on the Wagon - Day1

I got the job!!! by the way, airports SUCK for low carb. That was where my slippery slide to carb hell started. So after taking the last 10 days off it's time for me to step back on the wagon. I've managed to gain roughly half the weight I lost over 40 days back in 10 days and it's really frustrating. It's not like I was being a total pig either. I will write down what I kept track of but I'm just writing off the last 10 days and starting over.

General Diet Commentary

I'm noticing some general patterns with this diet. First, as my life has gotten more hectic and ridiculous (i.e. full-time job, interviewing for another job, submitting materials for yet another job, 5 credit accelerated programming class, trying to have a semblance of a social life) I've gotten a bit lax on the diet. Specifically, too high a consumption of alcohol, nuts, and cheese. Additionally, I've been adding small amounts of chocolate which is unusual because I'm not really a chocolate person and because I don't normally crave sweets. All of this is not ideal because alcohol, nuts, and cheese are inflammatory and the alcohol is sapping my energy and the alcohol and chocolate are most likely slowing weight loss. I will continue to 'dial-it-in' on the low carb most likely until Tuesday, however, because tomorrow I drive up to Vancouver to see Doug Stanhope (one of the best comedians *evar*) and Monday I fly to New York for an interview (!!).

side note: I'm getting tendonitis now in *both* wrists so it's hurting to type. I just ordered a new mouse because the pain/tingling/numbness are getting really bad. It's from doing waaay too much content analysis with a failing mouse where both buttons are *really* hard to click. I googled it and found out this is a symptom of the springs wearing out. I swapped my mouse out with the new one from the student desk (budget cuts = no student worker over the summer) and that mouse is a whisper lite clicking extravaganza! 01 July 2011 - Day 40

I'm starting to re-think how I title these things. I'm not really doing 'induction' because my diet strategy is to do two-ish weeks of low carb (in the 20g range) with calorie restriction, and then one day of binge where I don't limit the carb and calories as much. I think what I will end up doing from this point on is just saying what day I am on in the dieting journey, because that is more meaningful.

I have now shed 8.6 pounds, I am 3.4 pounds to my initial goal and 32.6 pounds to my final goal. In light of my shenanigans yesterday, I didn't take a ketones measurement.

AM Metabosol (12th day o' Metabosol) - 7:00AM - dang these pills *suck*. I can hardly wait until Dr. Eades stocks some more Metabosol so I can try the real stuff in powder form 'cuz it's gotta be better than these nasty horse pills!

I'm feeling a little better about the strange weight gain thing from last week - like it wasn't somehow my fault or a curse of the gods (or perhaps as Oprah would possibly say, "I was thinking heavy thoughts and that translated to my physical being") I'm now back down to 8 pounds shed, which makes me happy. I'm now down 7lb. I'm starting to think that the 1-2 shots of whiskey I'm having just before bedtime aren't all that bad -- though I probably should not be mixing that with my 'Metabosol mix'.

The pills are killing me, especially the Super Fat Burner ones - I don't know why they make supplements as big ol' freakin' horse pills because it takes a lot of water to get those puppies to not get stuck in my espohagus. I'm debating whether to pulverize them or not because I wonder if there's also an issue with absorption because they are monster horse pills.

Met a friend for drinks at the voyeur. They have one of those 'around the world in 80 beers' kinda dealios and I tried three of them:

Sinebrychoff Porter (a Finnish porter - given the Finn-o-phile I am, I had to try it) - not too bad! I'm not normally a porter kinda gal but this was pretty good. (19.3g carb, 218cal)

Bateman's Combined Harvest(an English multi-grain beer) - a bit too soft for my taste. It had good flavor, just no hoppy bite that I'm so accustomed to. (can't find nutrition info - I'll just guess - 19.3g, 218cal)

Orkney Skullsplitter (not a skull-splitter) -a barleywine. an acceptable but castrated beer with nothing particularly interesting about it except for its alcohol content.(can't find nutrition info - I'll just guess - 20g, 300cal)

So I must give an editorial on The Voyeur. It is everything I dislike about Olympia distilled into one hipster hovel. The "waiters" were actively ignoring our table. Think about it people. Young student-type=poor, Old people=possible disposable income. Maybe you should think about devoting a little time at the table that may fetch you a decent tip. The food was fair to middling. The decor was juvenile at best, puerile if you're feeling less generous. The state of cleanliness perhaps was intended to build patrons' immune systems. And the bathroom. It was nasty enough that I felt like I was catching an STD just by looking at it. "Set your meat hole here." was scrawled on the toilet seat. The grafitti on the walls was not even cool. There was no stack of toilet liners high enough to protect me from the creepy. Thank god my quads have the strength for a quality hover.

The calories and carb counts are probably changing a bit because I'm using a different website for most of my numbers. This is mainly because NutritionData doesn't auto-calculate for amounts and that has gotten to be a bit of a pain.

I'm blaming the Guinness and the kimchee as the culprits. Without these two it would have been 1400some calories and 27g carbs - well within acceptable.
The kimchee problem is because the kimchee from #1 Korean Barbecue is sooooo amazingly good and I was feeling crappy and there were extenuating circumstances which needn't be mentioned in a public forum - best for me not to keep it in the house. I also had no idea just how many calories and grams are in a Guinness because all of the nutrition data are based on 12oz servings, except Guinness is served by the imperial pint.
